Pompeo Borra. 1898-1973. Born in Milan. Figurative artist, whose work is characterised by bold, solid form, often set against unreal backgrounds. Favoirite subjects are female portraits and landscapes. He won the Principe Umberto Prize in 1934. After a long teaching career, became the Director of the Brera Academy in 1970.
