Frances Turner, British 1965-2003. Interior 1. Dry point etching. 18x17.5cm. Signed in pencil & dated '94.
Frances Turner. British 1965-2003. Figurative artist. For Turner, the body has become the site where political concerns intersect with personal ones, extending the long tradition of Anatomical illustration that flourished in the latter part of the 18th century, where the techniques of realism were presented as 'truth', but were often far from it. Turner died suddenly of a brain hemorrhage at the age of thirty-eight. She was "selected by the UK National Portrait Gallery BP Award five times between 1996-2001: by this criterion alone, Frances ranks as one of the most important British figurative artists of the late twentieth century"
