Joan Miro. Spanish (1893-1983). Born into a familty of craftsmen. His father, Miguel, was a watchmaker and goldsmith, while his grandfathers were cabinetmakers and blacksmiths. Miro is regarded as one of the Masters of modern art. His signature is in geometric shapes and abstract objects based on Surrealism. Miro usually worked with a limited colour pallete, but the colours he used were bold and expressive. Blue was his favourite colour and his earlier compositions are more highly prized if predominanty blue.
