Whaite, Gillian. Self portrait. Plate 40x30cm.

 

Gillian Whaite artist (1934-2012), daughter of the artist H. Clarence Whaite. Studied at the Slade School of Fine Art, and the Royal Academy Schools. Throughout the 60´s & 70´s she was a lecturer at St. Gabriel`s College of Education. Whaite´s work is held by the Worshipful Company of Fishmongers, Hunt Institute for Botanical Documentation Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh.

Her work 'Violinist' was exhibited in the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition in 1972.
In 1979 a major exhibition of her work together with that of her father, H Clarence Whaite (1895-1978) was held at the South London Art Gallery.

In Nov 2018, a retrospective 'Father and Daughter' was held in the Oxmarket Gallery Chichester where she lived the last 39 years of her life. Many of her floral works were used in fabric designs.
